Dr. Jeffrey A. Strakowski, MD –Co-Director, The Paralysis Center
Dr. Jeffrey Strakowski is a nationally recognized specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with expertise in peripheral nerve disorders, neuromuscular ultrasound, electrodiagnostic medicine, musculoskeletal medicine, and sports medicine. He serves as Co-Director of the Paralysis Center at the Paley Institute alongside Dr. Justin M. Brown, where he helps lead multidisciplinary clinical and research initiatives focused on paralysis, peripheral nerve injury, and restoration of function.
Dr. Strakowski is currently a Clinical Professor at The Ohio State University School of Medicine and Associate Director of Medical Education at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. Over the course of his career, he has held numerous leadership roles in medical education, neuromuscular medicine, and ultrasound research, including serving as Director of Musculoskeletal Research at the McConnell Spine, Sport & Joint Center. He completed his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine followed by residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio State University.Board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine, Dr. Strakowski also holds additional certifications in Neuromuscular Medicine, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Neuromuscular Ultrasound, Pain Management, and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. He has been repeatedly recognized for excellence in education, including multiple “Teacher of the Year” awards from The Ohio State University Department of PM&R, and has been named among The Best Doctors in America in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Internationally recognized for his contributions to peripheral nerve and musculoskeletal ultrasound, Dr. Strakowski has helped advance the clinical application of high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency ultrasound for the evaluation of peripheral nerves and neuromuscular disorders. His work integrates advanced imaging, electrodiagnostic medicine, and rehabilitation strategies to improve diagnostic precision and treatment selection in patients with focal nerve injuries and paralysis. He has also contributed to the development of new imaging protocols capable of visualizing structures previously difficult to assess with conventional ultrasound technology.
Dr. Strakowski has authored multiple textbooks, peer-reviewed publications, and textbook chapters in the fields of neuromuscular ultrasound, electrodiagnostic medicine, and peripheral nerve imaging, including Ultrasound Evaluation of Focal Neuropathies and Introduction to Musculoskeletal Ultrasound: Getting Started. He is actively involved in national and international educational initiatives and has lectured extensively throughout the United States and internationally on peripheral nerve imaging, electrodiagnostic medicine, and neuromuscular ultrasound.
